If you take a stroll through my website, odds are that sooner or later you'll click on the About page. But you're not going to find anything about my photography education, because I'm pretty sure you're more interested in what I can do for your pets.
What you will learn, is that back when I was a kid, I saw a photo that changed how I looked at the world around me. And that photo was of my dog. From that day on I experimented on her, doing things like putting her in a down-stay, lying down in the grass a little way off, then calling her to me so I could get the quintessential 'Photographer's Last Image' of a grinning, rather toothy dog bearing down on me. I taught myself quite a lot by trial and error, but over time realised that to really learn my craft I needed to take more formal education. And so I did.
Skipping past a bunch of life stuff including a move to the USA (where I first hung out my shingle as a portrait photographer) and landing on today, where I'm back in my hometown enjoying the worst kept secret that is Hawke's Bay; I'm coming full circle to that photo. I've always enjoyed photographing animals, so I'm doing now what I should have done years ago: I'm changing my business model to purely pet photography.
But really, why all the fuss? There are a lots of photographers around who add 'Pets' to their list of 'specialties'. You see, I've learned that it takes a different approach to successfully and consistently photograph animals than it does to photograph people. What makes a good wedding or family photographer doesn't make a good pet photographer. And I know that in order to become a master of my trade, I need to focus on what I do best. I know how to photograph animals and I love doing it.
But why should you care that I've made a big announcement out of this? Why not just switch and be done with it? Because I've teamed up with five homegrown businesses in the pet industry, to bring you a whole slew of treats. Doggy treats. Kitty treats. Pet treats - because I want to make this transition a treat - for you.
