To some it's a pretty short lead-in to this year's Dog Calendar vote; to others it's been months. But for two of us it was a year in the making.
CAREing Paws founder Melissa Saul and I decided after last year's calendar vote that it would be a crying shame not to continue such a successful event. Candidate parents, their family, friends and total strangers all got into the spirit of the fundraiser and helped not only to donate to a great cause, but to have a huge amount of fun along with it.
Then things changed: my husband and I started making plans to move to New Zealand. After much discussion, we decided I would photograph the candidates before we left Atlanta, Georgia and host the vote from New Zealand. So two weeks prior to our migration west and south, I set out to photograph more than 20 dogs. Not the brightest thing I've ever done, in hindsight.
Next was the move; trying not only to ship a household, a dog and a cat to the other side of the planet, but also to take our computers on board the plane with us, so we didn't have to wait for them to arrive three months later in the shipping container.
Then it all went south (pun intended) when my NAS, with two mirrored hard drives holding all of the work I'd done so far in 2014, wouldn't boot up. Steve worked his magic and voila! one of the drives started working and I stopped holding my breath.
Fast forward to today: the dogs have been showcased on the LupinBay Facebook page and we're here now, hosting the vote for Southern Kiwi Photography.
So without further ado, here are the rules:
- You may vote for as many dogs as you like.
- You may vote as often as you like.
Voting closes at 12:01am EDT (GMT -04) on Saturday, 16 August 2014 after which the votes will be counted, with the finalists announced on Monday 18 August. The calendar will be available for purchase in the US only with US$5 from each going to CAREing Paws.
BE WARNED! The order of the candidates auto-shuffles each time you return to this page. I've done this in an attempt to make sure no trickery is involved with the voting, giving an unfair advantage to any of the candidates.
